Sofya Lomaeva is a London based, young director with a love for slow and intense films, be that a thriller or a drama. Born in Russia, Sofya grew up in Barcelona, Spain, a city she comes back to every time she needs inspiration. Having moved to London when she was 18 she first acquired a degree in Philosophy which pushed her to broaden her creative endeavours and to this day fuels her work. After completing her Masters at the London Film Academy, in which she directed two shorts, including her debut short "Catfished", Sofya has gone on to work on other small budget projects, including her short "A Microcosm of Spring" filmed in July of 2024 which steps away from the thriller-esque drama that "Catfished" was, and delves more into the psychology of the human mind through the lens of an impressionable teenage girl. As of now, she is working on exploring further the limits of space and time, society and human emotion as she embarks upon her next project.
She is a receiver of the Kalkari Film Award for her screenplay "Unbound", directed by Surabhi Warick.
She is a quarter finalist of the 2022 Blue Cat Screenwriting Competition.
