Dorota Zglobicka is an award-winning film director and visual artist who was born in Poland and currently resides in the United States. With a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Fine Arts Academy in Gdansk, Poland, and studies at the Multimedia Department of the Academy of Fine Art in Athens, Greece, she has developed a unique style that blends various film forms, including video art, short films, and documentaries addressing important social issues such as political corruption and social injustice. In addition to these topics, Dorota also explores the intricacies of human physiology and mental state through her films, offering a unique perspective on these subjects.
Her directing debut, Love and Shadow, which she wrote in Greek, directed, and produced in Greece, was awarded a prestigious award in 2010. Since 1998, her work has been featured in various festivals and exhibitions across the globe, including Poland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Israel, and the USA. Her films have also been shown on Polish TV. In 2008, Dorota directed and produced a remake of the first-ever Polish film, which received critical acclaim and earned her an Honorary Award in the remake competition. The film was later broadcast on the Polish TV channel Kino Polska.
In 2022, Dorota's film, "A Song For Ukraine," was an official selection at the Black Cat Award International Film Festival in La Paz, Bolivia, and the Film Festival SCREAM it off SCREEN, USA. The same year, her film "DIGI DADA-BARTOK", created with Zbig Rybczynski, won the Best Dance Short Award at the Hong Kong Film Festival and the Best Experimental Video Award at the Europe Music Awards in Slovakia. The film also won the Best Experimental award at the Dallas Movie Awards Festival.
In 2020, Dorota won a Telly Award for her exceptional work in film directing. She was also invited to participate in the Rutger Hauer Film Factory in Rotterdam, where she worked with Golden Globe Award-winning Rutger Hauer on her short film, "3". With over 30 film/video titles to her credit, Dorota has produced and directed award-winning commercials in both Europe and the USA.
From 2010 to 2013, Dorota worked at the cutting-edge Wroclaw Audiovisual Technology Center, a film studio specializing in real-time multi-layered image production. The studio was created by Zbig Rybczynski, an Oscar-winning filmmaker with extensive scientific research, US patents, and creative experience under his belt. During her tenure, Dorota closely documented the construction process of the studio and directed and edited over 5 documentary films showcasing its capabilities.
With a passion for telling stories that delve deep into the human condition, Dorota continues to explore new and exciting ways to create visual art. Along with her husband Zbig Rybczynski, they work on their new feature film, "Thee Designer," which is currently in pre-production. In addition, Dorota has recently directed and produced a documentary titled "My Own Private Groundhog Day", which is in production.
