Director Biography - Laris Macario

The eldest of three children, Laris Macario was born in New York City to Dominican immigrants in the neighborhood of Washington Heights. After moving to south Florida in his youth, he took to soccer and baseball and later moved on to more intense sports like football and MMA. Growing up bilingual, he had the distinct privilege of moving seamlessly between his suburban environment and rich Dominican home life. He discovered the stage by secretly taking a drama class whilst in the middle of a football season. To his surprise, his teammates (whom he was convinced would mock him relentlessly) turned out to be his biggest supporters, often requesting he try out his newest performance pieces on them.
He attended Florida Atlantic University, and after receiving his B.F.A in Theater Performance from F.A.U. he decided return to New York to pursue his career full-time. As an actor he seeks to bring back the Swords & Sandals epics of old. He believes that his classical training, athleticism, and charisma make him a shoe-in to head the next generation of Hollywood leading men.
He's co-starred on the shows "Blue Bloods" and "FBI." Laris has also played supporting roles in the award winning films "Callous" on Amazon Prime and the Sleeping Life of Sofia. Additionally, he was awarded Best Supporting Actor at The Garden State Film Festival.

Director Statement

I chose to direct this film because the story Lisa wrote moved me. I found the unlikely friendship between an Upper West Side doctor and a Crip compelling. The perceptions of others run skin deep, but our souls yearn to connect to another kindred spirit. To me this is the essence of the human condition and something that is lacking in our society today.

What would happen if we let go of our own narrative and saw others for who they are, not for who we need them to be? Where would that lead us? How would our lives change? How much would we grow? These questions cannot be answered in a short story. They cannot be answered in a lifetime. My goal in directing this film was to plant these questions in the audience's mind long enough to help them better understand themselves, and if they're lucky, their fellow man.

It was an honor to direct this film and a privilege to have worked with such a generous team. Your consideration and the time taken to share this experience with us is priceless and I thank you.
