Finishing my PhD in cinema esthetics at the Sorbonne University, I was also a philosophy teacher for high-school students and a cinema lecturer for undergraduates. My main drive, however, is in the making of movies. And after directing a TV documentary for the France 5 channel, I'm very happy to submit my first professional short fiction : Snow Burn.
I wanted to show that strange moment in life when the roles are reversed, without warning, between parents and children. This intimate drama is anchored in the deep soil of Martinique, but the landscapes, often unknown to the general public, are much more than a setting. If it is about heritage, it is also about the relationship with the land. It was important to me to highlight the difficulty experienced by many West Indians in seizing their land, in making it their own. Especially, in the context of ecological disaster that these islands are going through (the massive use of pesticides for exemple). The intimate drama joins the collective drama: that of the almost irreversible poisoning of West Indian soils... If these island landscapes are so dense, it is because all these issues are tied up in them.
