Since I was a kid I’ve loved movies—sitting on the floor in front of a TV was (and still is) my favorite pastime. When I was 12 my dad bought a camcorder that I immediately commandeered and began making my own movies with. My first was for 8th grade history class and had something to do with The Great Depression. Instead of a factual, informative video I wrote a murder scene with historical references peppered in. I bribed my friends to act in it and bought pig intestines from the local butcher for special effects. The final product was unbelievably rough and shockingly violent, but all mine. After the “premiere” the teacher called my parents with serious concern and several questions (in hindsight the intestines were probably too much), but that project sealed the deal. I was in love with filmmaking.
Over the years my skills and knowledge have evolved, but the subject matter remains the same—dark. Horror, thriller, and sci-fi are genres I tend to gravitate towards because I enjoy creating worlds in which the audience can explore their own dark sides as intimately as I have mine.
