Director Biography - Mike Lown

Ever since graduating from Emerson College (BA, ‘15), I have immersed myself in the many realms of visual storytelling. This has included writing, producing, directing, and taking pretty pictures from time to time. Currently based in Brooklyn, NY, I moderate/curate the blog “Wag the Film,” which showcases 35mm photography taken around the globe (specializing in the fields of street, natural light, and abstract/experimental). I recently completed the short film, “Sleepy, Falling,” which acts as the starting point for an interactive anthology series of the same name.

Director Statement

“Sleepy, Falling”  interprets that decisive moment between waking life and rapid eye movement. Sleep is a basic human function and lurking beneath is an inherent conflict of dropping our defenses in the hope that we will wake replenished yet unchanged. The conflict is further augmented by the relationships of everything and everyone we sleep with every night. What occurs everywhere is a ritual that unites us in an unconscious collective while completely isolating us into our little dream worlds. In those dreams, we form these intense, intimate narratives in which we cannot distinguish between fantasy and reality until they are all over. The fragments left behind form the basis of "Sleepy, Falling." The open-ended nature of these stories will hopefully allow viewers to bring their own perspectives to the question, “What keeps you up?”
