Sizwe has been in the film and Television industry for almost 20years. He studied Broadcasting Television Production, a two-year certificate course at the University of the Witwatersrand. Like everyone else he started off as an office intern at Curious Pictures, now called Quizzical Pictures. In 2011, he wrote, directed and produced his first feature film called Eskhaleni Sikantombela, which, though not released yet, has won numerous awards internationally. In 2011, he also had his debut appearance on the then popular show, “Zone 14,” on SABC 1. His passion for acting and writing caused him to leave the industry for 4 years to study Dramatic Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand. The bug of academia caught him and now he has a degree in Psychology, Performing and Visual Arts, an honours in Drama Therapy and he is busy with his Masters in Cultural Policy and Management.
As an actor he has appeared in many local television dramas and soapies like Generations (SABC 1), Saints and Sinners (Mzansi Magic), The Throne (Mzansi Magic), etc. As a writer and storyliner he worked on various drama series and soapies like Isibaya (Mzansi Magic), Muvhango (SABC 2), Vutha (SABC 2), Isipho (ETV), to name a few. He has recently established his own production company called Sentimental Productions and is looking forward to creating content that will move the industry to the next level.
Sizwe Fortune Zuma is currently a council member of the Writers Guild Of South Africa, leading the office of Advocacy. Apart from advocating for a positive change in the Arts and Culture legislation, which in its current state doesn't recognise artists (Writers, Theatre-makers, Filmmakers and interdisciplinary artists) as labourers, but independent contractors, in the guild he intervenes in matters relating to screenwriters and producers.
Sizwe Fortune Zuma is also a sessional lecturer in various film schools and organisations, and is also involved in scriptwriting training programmes all over South Africa.
Lastly, as a way to bridge the gap between artists and funding institutions, Sizwe is a consultant that sits in various councils, where he is an advisory panelist which facilitates proposals with artistic merit. These are organizations like the National Arts Council, which funds authors, theater makers, poets, musicians, dancers, Visual Artists and Interdisciplinary artists. He is also a consultant at the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), which funds the whole country films, from development through to Marketing and Distribution.
Sizwe Fortune Zuma's vision is to rebuild South African cinema, connecting it with the rest of the continent and the world at large. "In South Africa we have so many untold stories, that the world is ready for."
