Mandy Jacobs is an LA-based filmmaker from Moorpark, CA interested in directing for film and television. In 2019 she graduated from Chapman University where she earned her BFA in Film Production with an Emphasis in Directing and was the recipient of the Leo Freedman Fellowship in Film Grant for the production of her thesis film SISTERS. She’s recently interned with the American Film Institute Festivals programming department and is currently developing her first feature.
SISTERS is inspired by the true story of my aunt and her wife, who met in a convent in the 1970s, as well as by the numerous accounts of other lesbian nuns and ex-nuns who have written about their experiences with faith, love, and "particular friendship."
SISTERS is written, directed, shot, edited, production designed, and sound designed by women. 95% of our production crew is female. It's important to us as student filmmakers to be inspired by the technical and artistic talents of women in telling a story about female experience.
