Director Biography - Vanessa Blättler Alcaide

1995 born and raised in Zurich, they pursued their studies at the preparatory course in the Lucerne University of Design & Art, where they experimented with various media. Their interest in creative design unites their work behind the camera, both visually and technically. They was drawn to film-making by their fascination with the diversity of design and associated creativity. During their bachelor studies at Zurich University of the Arts, they directed their graduation film "SIN RAZÓN". Since graduating in 2023, they has been focusing on camera work and works at their feature film.

Director Statement

"Without Reason" explores the complexities of victimhood and all the nuances of shame that comes unfortunately with it. Caused by traumas of abuse the director portrays the process of healing from painful relationships. Frida’s has to challenge the confrontation with herself and society. The director captures the protagonist’s tumultuous rollercoaster of all emotions and the disorienting experience of losing oneself, depicting this struggle through fragmented memories and imagery during her journey to self-awareness and empowerment. The inner peace unfolds in the breaking free from toxic relationships, releasing the past, and ultimately embracing the wounded self. The director aims to tell Frida’s story without serving any stereotypical judgments of abuse and victimhood, though telling an experience in sensitive and multilayered manners.
