Simon grew up in a volcano crater in the South Island of New Zealand and is now based in London. He discovered filmmaking after working for over 20 years as an actor, theatre maker and photographer in New Zealand, Australia and the UK.
His brainchild THE GENERATION OF Z, a large scale immersive theatrical show, stormed the Edinburgh Festival in 2014 and then went on to a four month run in London.
His first short film, THE CALF, was developed and funded by The New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) and received its world premiere in competition at Odense International Film Festival 2022. His second short film, THAT WORKMAN'S ARM, was also supported by the NZFC and had its world premiere in competition at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2022. In early 2023 he completed an MA in Directing Fiction at The National Film & Television School and his graduation film premiered at Reykjavík International Film Festival, where it won the Golden Egg.
