Director Biography - Bia Palmer

Bia Palmer was born and raised in Brazil, spent most of her life there before moving to New York City at 17 then there lived for a year and graduated High School. In NYC she also got the opportunity to be a Tribeca Institute Film Fellow (2019), which constituted of both deeply enlightening experiences: a mentorship with director Josephine Decker and access to the Tribeca Film Festival. With an earnest background in performing arts and poetry, a noteworthy aspect of Palmer’s work is her Brazilian roots, which infuse her films and writing with the tender vigor of the country’s cultural diversity. She aims to tell politically conscious narratives through dynamic storytelling of themes regarding for example gender and sexuality politics, social inequality in its many facets and mental health questions. Bia creates because she believes emotionally well aware pieces evoke empathy and, consequently, potential for equality. Currently in a gap year, Palmer is volunteering and working on her portfolio at her hometown as she prepares to head out for University in Europe in the near future.
