Silence of the Ganges

The project stems from the need of good and engaging narrative style in cinema.
The idea initially stemmed from the study of narrative style and structure of Indian Parallel/Alternative Cinema where a strong pattern was noticed regarding a need of engaging and meaningful narrative. According to the study, a short fiction film is developed called ‘Silence of the Ganges’ which portrays current contemporary social issue where parents are isolated because the new generation is busy living their life and therefore older people are left lonely and marginalized. The film portrays a realistic approach to the issue with minimum budget including simple method of cinematography.Silence of the Gangesis a bitter reality check on contemporary social issue set in present dad Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India; involving father-son duo – 45 year old son and his 73 year old father Vidyadhar Tripathi. The father-son duo embarks when Vidyadhar Tripathi (father) is getting ready to leave for Delhi to see his daughter and his reluctant dutiful son, Darpan Tripathi is left with no choice but to drop his father to the railway station in the middle of a working day. On their way to the railway station, Vidyadhar realizes that he forgot Gangajalvessel back home and ask his son to turn the car but son impatiently refuses as he states that he need to drop him and go back to work. When it comes to his job, Darpan is very calm – headed, however with his father he is a different person. Until, Darpan gets a call from office reminding him how he is running late for work, Darpan prioritize his work over his father and drops his father half way to the railway station. But unexpected conversation in the car, new observations, old sayings and new discoveries is all what adds up to this complicated and bitter tale.
