Serena Bartlett is a recent graduate of Lesley University. She is a passionate filmmaker and artist who strives to interweave the worlds of animation and illustration and tell meaningful stories that can be enjoyed by a large range of people. She often mixes her love of fantasy and magic with a touch of reality, making commentary on real world issues, most notably climate change.
This film was a passion project for Serena, bringing together multiple facets of her creative interests into one piece. As both an animator and illustrator Serena wanted to combine her love of working with traditional media along with her education in digital animation techniques. By blending these two she was able to accomplish a film that feels both fresh and new but also has nostalgic qualities to it. She also felt it extremely important to not just tell a fun fantasy story but to call attention to the very real world problem of climate change and to do so in a way that felt digestible and screenable to a wide audience. This film was also her last she would be making as an undergrad at Lesley University so she made sure she would be putting in her best effort, using all of the amazing resources she would have access to at the school. lastly she wanted to showcase a bit of her jewish heritage along with inspirations from many cultures around the world through her careful world-building. Most notably the music composed and created by the Amazing Jeremy Klewicki is heavily influenced by the historic sounds of Klezmer music.
