    Shuai Li is a Chinese filmmaker and anthropologist. He was born in Wuhan but raised in Hainan Island and educated abroad in England. He read anthropology at School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He went on to Queens’ College, University of Cambridge, where he obtained his PhD in anthropology with a thesis on antiquarian activism and human-heritage relations in contemporary China. He has a standing cinematic and academic interest in alterity and cultural change in their material and sensorial manifestations.
