Director Statement

"Getaway" serves as a double entendre, representing both the desire to escape for a weekend holiday and the terrifying urge to flee from a haunted location. The film explores subtle power dynamics, particularly when Prarthana's subconscious mind exaggerates the horrors around her, amplifying her dormant personality. She yearns to make her voice heard, confront the gaze of creepy men, witness Sandeep's vulnerability, and unmask Raj's false bravado, while simultaneously fearing the dominating nature of Sangeeta.
The film incorporates the motif of mirrors and glasses, symbolizing distorted reflections and fractured identities. Notably, the reflections are not mirror opposites, intensifying Prarthana's delusions.
The eerie knocking sounds she hears are actually Sandeep attempting to communicate from the physical realm, while the deceased souls of Sangeeta and Raj, who perished alongside Prarthana in the accident, mislead her into believing that it is the monster at the door in the alternate realm.
Initially, the coffee cup represents false hope and hospitality, but as the situation darkens, its disappearance signifies the loss of all hope.
The receptionist personifies death, but since Prarthana's time has not yet come, he remains unresponsive. However, when she summons the courage to strike him, she creates a rift in both realms, bringing death closer to her.
Ultimately, she must confront her fears and emerge through the door, symbolizing her rebirth with newfound courage and hope. Surprisingly, Sandeep, whom she longed to see alive, is indeed alive, though she has lost the others.
