Also, we provide chance for MOSCOW film creators to take a chance in showing our beautiful city in their movies.

How we do?

Choose one or more categories and submit your short film.

Usually, our submissions start on 1th-4th of the month and end on the same day next month.

EACH submitted film will receive a short review from our judge team (on request)

PLEASE NOTE: We don't screen the films online! The members of the jury watch the films online and they choose the Official Selections.

In 5-7 days after the deadline day for submissions we publish the Official Selections list and we notify the filmmakers via e-mail.

During the next 5 days our members of the jury decide the winners for each category.
After that we publish the Winners list and we notify filmmakers by e-mail. The lists are published on social media and on our dedicated website: shortshotfest.com

In the last week of the month we screen the awarded films in art - center "Efir" in the heart of Moscow.
From August, 2023 we are OPEN for new season 2023/2024.
The Grand Finale 2023/2024 will be held in August, 2024in Moscow.

Rules & Terms

Only projects submitted on FilmFreeway are considered.

Films not in English language must have English subtitles.

No premiere requirements, and films may already be available online.

Student projects must have been a majority student production. Submitters must have been a student at the time of production. All levels of education are eligible.

All film selections will be notified, and will be required to provide a HD .MOV or .MP4 of the film.

Selected films wishing not to use their 'Official Premiere', can request to screen as a 'Preview', but will not be eligible for the Audience Award.

Selected films won't be uploaded online, unless the submitter gives prior permission, or it is already intentionally public.

Submitter grants us authorisation to include images, extracts and promotional material for our own promotional purposes, but the project will always be credited.

Submitter agrees they have read and understood all the terms and conditions, rules and guidelines before submitting.

    If I could give this festival 0 stars I would, complete waste of time and money. I submitted 3 films over the past 3 years the first of which being my Comedy Short “Mushy Peas” which won in its category. I contacted the festival organisers multiple times regarding my prize, to which they said, each time that I would receive a “statue” commemorating the win. Nothing ever arrived. I was also contacted by the organiser regarding a special screening that my film was selected for after the win. They asked if they would be able to use my film’s poster for a single use to put up in the cinema’s foyer, I agreed. They then took my design, altered it and used it to promote their festival on their website, 7 times on their social media accounts and physically outside of the screening to promote the event, all of which I did not agree to. I contacted the organisers again regarding these issues to which I was told I would receive the award, still nothing. Eventually I challenged the organisers on the issues stated above and the misinformation I have received from their end, to which they said “I was rude”. A lot of time, effort and creativity goes into the films we make and receiving accolades help us progress in our careers, that being said I would recommend taking your films elsewhere as you’ll give more than you get with this festival.

    Hello. I liked the festival. I liked the initial attitude and the letter about appearing on the shortlist. But it is also important for the author to receive a letter, of course, if the film did not receive any prizes.

    It seems that my film took part somewhere, but where - is unknown. There is no feedback from the organizers. They select your film, screen it somewhere - but you won't know about it. Not recommend anyone to participate.
