Born in a little country town in New South Wales, Australia, she moved to the big smog to pursue her dream of filmmaking. In December 2015, Courtney (20) graduated from the International Film School Sydney with an Advanced Diploma in Screen & Media Studies. During her studies she has written, directed and produced 5 short films as well as working on 30 other short films during her studies.
‘Shipping Anonymous’ is the first project Courtney has entered into a festival, but there are many more projects to follow. After Shipping Anonymous has finished its festival run, Courtney is eager to find finding to make the first season (either through sponsorship, funding grants or through crowd funding)
Recently Courtney was First Assistant Director for the first two seasons of ‘A Shared House’, a web series that was created with a few other graduates from IFSS. This year Courtney was also First Assistant Director for 'Lasting Traces' (Short Film) and a Production Assistant on 'Innocent Killer' (Feature Film).
Courtney has taken her first steps in the Television industry in Australia haven't recently worked on 'BodyHack with Todd Sampson' and just recently moving on to 'Living Universe' both with Essential Media and Two Dogs TV.
Courtney’s other significant film, ‘Ninety Nine’, inspired by true stories about human trafficking, will also be set to enter the festival circuit in 2017 and just recently had a successful crowdfunding Campaign. One day Courtney hopes to be able to do a bio feature about the Australian born organization A21 and how they have been rescuing the trafficked victims and prosecuting the traffickers. Courtney is also hoping to submit 'Vena Cava’, a Steampunk short film into festivals. Courtney hopes to one day develop ‘Vena Cava’ into a feature film.
In 2016 Courtney will be collaborating with a few of the cast and crew from Shipping Anonymous to write an Australian traveling feature film that they will be filming in 2018. At the start of 2016 Courtney launched her mini documentary series ‘City Lights’ that does 5 minute interviews with creatives around Australia.
While I was at film school, I was surrounded by classmates that were heavily inspired to be in the industry by these incredible directors like Tarantino, Spielberg, Scorses and there I was sitting embarrassed because the influence that lead me to pursuing a career in the film industry was the television show Castle. Now I’m a massive fangirl for a lot of shows (and I do mean a lot!), ask me trivia questions about Friends, Community, The Office and Parks & Rec and I will beat your pants off, but that doesn’t even come close to my love for Castle. Safe to say there are a lot of true stories that come out of this (yes the thing with Nyssa really happened!)
It’s taken me a long time to not be embarrassed by how much Castle has affected my life, and it’s something that I would love to explore in Shipping Anonymous. I want Shippers to be a love letter to the fans who watch their shows week in and week out, and to the creators who have made these worlds possible.
One day I hope that I can be as great a show runner as Andrew Marlowe, he is very protective about the integrity of his story, both for the characters and for the fans. He believed that when the characters get together, it’s not the end of the story it’s only beginning. That attitude has greatly affected the show and is why it is still running as we speak. If one day, a long long long time in the future I can make one person feel 10% of the passion and love I feel for Castle, for something that I have created then I will have surpassed my greatest expectations.
