Best Short Narrative
A native of Orangefield, Texas, Penny LeLeux started in films in 2016 with 48 hour film races, learning on the run as part of a team of 4-5 people.
She wrote her first short script for a competition in 2018, which has won awards in 2018-2019.
In 2018, she was a one woman production crew for what she calls "a companion piece for a book."
"Ghost Writer" is a short narrative of an incident that happened when a good friend was writing her next mystery novel. LeLeux says it is a different kind of marketing tool, not your typical book trailer.
"Shhh" was written for a screenwriting competition in 2019 and as soon as LeLeux turned it in, she realized it was producible, locally. It is her first film to work with a production company and an actual budget, albeit a small one.
She started a Facebook page with John Frederick to promote film making in Orange County, Texas called the Barefoot Director.
LeLeux is busy working to create more film opportunities in Southeast Texas and building relationships with other filmmakers along the I-10 corridor, which she calls the Texas Film Belt.
