Shelley and The Shadow
Shelley is a young painter suffering from depression who can’t see a way out from her oppressive environment. She is set on attempting suicide and on the line between life and death she has an out of body, dreamy experience. Through this experience and her alter ego Red Shelley, she’ll face her darkest fears, encounter death and re-find help in art.

Eleonora Cao Pinna is a Film Student at her final year at the University of Westminster. She likes to experiment with filmmaking as well as with different types of arts. She has participated in the 7-months ‘Females in Film” mentorship programme run by the Eastside Educational Trust in 2019. She also attended an intensive directing workshop at the Italian National Film school (Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia).
Depression and suicide attempts have been increasing rapidly in the Millennials and Generation Z population because of a general feel of despair and meaningless of life and society and a shared sense of distance and detachment from older generations.
This short story generates from both a sense of frustration and a need for a reaction. Although depression is a very personal experience it needs to be discussed and I hope the film will help viewers feel understood in this shared generational issue.
