Naomi began making films on her phone to accompany her poetry. After making a collection of films, Naomi was awarded her first grant from Beatfreaks to make ‘Takes a Village’ which was nominated at the Birmingham Film Festival for ‘Best Music Video’ and ‘Best Social Media Content’. Following this Naomi was commissioned to write and produce ‘She Lost Her Visa, Then Her Baby’. Most recently Naomi is being supported by the DYCP Arts Council to produce four more poetry films in 2023. Naomi’s films are based on her lived experiences and the experiences of those she has listened closely to.
It’s been a pleasure to work with JStyle Visuals on this project. Joel is devoted to his craft and I am delighted with his co-direction and videography of this piece. Please check out his other work and contact for more information: https://www.jstylevisual.com/
This film is for the woman whose story it is based on, and for every other parent and child suffering the torture of forced separation or from the long term effects of trauma from this.
