Shannon M. Sutherland (she/her) is a writer and director based in New York City. Her stories often feature Black female protagonists in the horror and fantasy genres, exploring themes of Black girlhood through metaphysical lenses. Shannon is a graduate of the MFA Film Production program at Florida State University's College of Motion Picture Arts. Her latest short film, They Flew Like Blackbirds, was one of the five winners of the 4th Annual Focus Features & JetBlue Student Short Film Showcase. She is currently developing a trilogy of short films that will address issues of trauma, dysfunctional family dynamics, and hope in Black girlhood.
