Shall We Talk

The film tells a story about a teenager who jumped off the balcony from a mother and daughter's house and a story about everyone involved in the incident have to face the cause and effects from their own perspectives and to explore the meaning of love. The director considers love is the natural ability of individual, and love makes the world bright. In the film, the director put love into characters's relationship, mother and daughter, teachers and students, classmates and lovers. When the mothers treat love as a legitimate excuse to pry into her daughter 's privacy, when teachers turn love into inhibition of freedom and human rights, when a teenager resists love in the way of ending life, love also becomes a silent violence. The film aims to explore what love is when people face love at different stages of their life. What is the meaning of love? It is an absolute selfish possession that become an accessory of others' consciousness, or a relative self-liberation and freedom.

The story is based on director’s personal experience four years ago. She started writing the outline of the story three ago by interviewing 34 students and teachers and documenting student's campus life to ensure the authenticity of the story and facts.

The director and director's group spent three months to rehearse nearly sixty to eighty amateur actors (including students, adults, and the elderly), picking out all the final characters and mass actors. The four-main characters enter and practice the role four months in advance. The director is the main investor as well due to limited fund. Most of the main creators have similar experience and started review the script in advance, and obliged to participate in the intense shooting and post-production process. After filming, the director is still concerning and keeping in touch with those students who participated in the movie filming. Many students graduated from high school, went to university, or found a job, and the changes of each student were impressive. Those students start to have a different viewpoint when dealing with problems and different perspectives of student life and better understanding of relationship with parents. The movie filming can be considered as experimental process, which creates fresh ideas for post-production.
