Shakiru(deen) Akinyemi’s journey in filmaking began as a playwright, then a poet, a screenwriter, production assistant, producer and director. In June 2017, he was brought in as field support for ZPZ Productions for CNN documentary, 'Sex and love around the world' by Christiane Amanpour. Though the planned crew was all-female, he got on the project because of his communication and cultural intelligence, a key skill needed for filming in a place like Jamestown, Accra’s steepest cultural town.
He co-directed Tribal Zone, a fictional project by Berlin-based Weltfilme and Ghana YMCA.
In 2018, he wrote script for Indigenous, a food and climate change project funded by OSIWA and produced by Refined Creative in Accra.
In June 2019, he directed ‘Life on the road’ currently in post-production, the story of Awudu Tijani who has been directing traffic voluntarily in Accra for two decades.
Shakiru lives in Accra, Ghana (West Africa).
