Keve Pastor, born in 1999 in the serene town of Serrinha, Bahia, Brazil, is a filmmaker deeply passionate about stories. From a young age, his penchant for cinematic art and historical narratives was evident, a testament to his innate curiosity and perfectionism.
His cinematic journey commenced in 2017. At just 17, he attended the finals of an inter-school film festival. Disappointed with the quality of the short films showcased, he realized his potential to create superior content. Spurred by his enthusiasm and unquenchable curiosity, he rallied a group of friends and produced his own short film. This was a remarkable feat, especially considering his lack of prior experience in film production.
Determined to master all facets of his project's creation, he embarked on a relentless journey of self-education. He devoted days to exploring Jackie Chan's filmography, focusing on action films and examining the components that define the genre in detail. His meticulous attention to detail and unwavering pursuit of excellence prompted him to delve into various aspects of film production.
This profound engagement with film analysis led to the creation of his debut short film, "The Phoenix's Ki." Despite limited resources, Keve infused every part of the project with his passion and creativity. The journey of crafting "The Phoenix's Qi" deepened his love for cinema and solidified his resolve to forge a career in this multifaceted and demanding field.
From that point forward, he redoubled his efforts to hone his skills in every area of interest. His perfectionist nature drove him to gain a deep understanding of each aspect of the filmmaking process. In 2019, he took a significant leap by securing a scholarship to study audiovisual arts in São Paulo. However, when he found that the course didn't live up to his expectations in terms of depth and practicality, Keve chose a self-taught path to pursue more thorough and hands-on learning.
Advancing towards his dream with determination, Keve Pastor embarked on independent studies, attended workshops, and collaborated with fellow filmmakers and artists. His inherent curiosity drove him to delve into every facet of film production, pushing him to excel in areas such as direction, screenwriting, editing, colour grading, cinematography, and even acting.
Throughout a journey marked by obstacles and triumphs, Keve Pastor has risen as a robust and versatile filmmaker. His profound dedication to the cinematic arts, combined with his love for history, distinctly moulds his career. His unwavering commitment and consistent pursuit of excellence inspire young filmmakers to pursue their passions with tenacity, inquisitiveness, and a relentless drive for continuous growth.
The inspiration for this film came from an unexpected source: a video shared by a friend exploring an abandoned hospital in our hometown. The intrigue of the location, enriched by urban legends of forgotten places, compelled me to bring its story to the big screen.
From the start, our vision was clear: to use our filmmaking skills to tell this tale without relying on a large budget. As we developed the script, the location's rich narratives came to the fore. The hospital wasn't just a backdrop; it had connections to our team. We were committed to narrating this tale using our filmmaking skills without relying heavily on financial means.
As we delved into the production and scripting, we uncovered enthralling tales linked to the hospital. Luciana Lara, a team member, had her child there. We also uncovered tales of its present-day use by criminals due to its lack of security and the bureaucratic challenges tied to its private philanthropic ownership. These revelations added depth to our story.
At the heart of our film is the hospital, a city landmark. Its hallways echo with memories spanning generations. Highlighting this once iconic but now forgotten site underpins our film's message: shedding light on the neglect of significant landmarks.
To us, this film is more than just entertainment. It's a call to preserve our past while addressing current issues of decay and neglect. We aim to engage viewers, prompting them to reflect on the value of our historical heritage and the stories hidden within.
