Director Biography - Martina Amoretti

Martina Amoretti is a recent graduate from the University of Glasgow, where she studied Film and Television Studies. Since she was very little, Martina has been passionate about films and got inspired by features such as "The Goonies" and "The Never Ending Story": in fact, she was touched by the possibility of being enraptured so vividly within a fantasy world and how such a world could be created all around her.

Growing up, Martina is trying to fulfil this childhood dream to be a part of those magical worlds. However, her interest is now shifting between different genres: what enraptures her is the dichotomy between fiction and reality, the different ways in which this very dichotomy can be bent, and what impact can film and fiction have on the ‘real’ world. As a result, she is extremely passionate about character-building narratives, and psychology always plays a big role in her endeavours.

Currently, Martina is attending a Master in Directing at MetFilm School (London) with the objective of cultivating her passion and hopefully, stylising her voice.

Director Statement

SET is short mockumentary inspired by TV series such as The Office UK (BBC One, 2001-2003), The Office US (NBC, 2005-2013), Parks & Recreation (NBC, 2009-2015) and Boris (Sky Italia, 2007-2010). Created right after the #MeToo movement’s accomplishments, its primary goal is to give a small-scale reflection of the reality that sometimes encompasses small budget independent productions. Using comedy as a tool, the film shades a sarcastic veil on the world of cinema, showing what could happen on a set if everything started to go wrong. In fact, everything is brought to the extreme to analyse how much reality can come across through such comedic fiction and to spur the audience towards a reflection on crew dynamics.
