Upon graduating from City University of New York, Thomas began his career assisting and editing a number of independent features and documentaries before moving to Los Angeles to pursue writing and producing as a step to directing.
An early assignment took him to Spain where he wrote: “Blood and Sand”, a modern adaptation of the classic novel: “Sangre y Arena” by Blasco Ibanez. The film starred Sharon Stone.
Returning to the US, Thomas produced his first film: “Purple Haze”. The film won the Grand Prize at the USA Film Festival (Sundance) and was released by Columbia/Triumph.
His second film as a producer was “Nightsongs”. Thomas and Director Marva Nabili were invited to participate The Sundance Institute FIlmmaker's Lab. The film aired on PBS.
Whoopi Goldberg hired Thomas for his first directing job: the opening to Whoopi’s HBO Special: “Fontaine Why Am I Straight”. The special was nominated for a Cable Ace award.
Thomas next directed “The Comforts Of Home”, based on a Flannery O’Connor short story. “The Comforts Of Home” was quickly followed by “Don’t Call Me Frankie”.
“Don’t Call Me Frankie” premiered at Cannes and was runner up in Semaine de la Critique (Critic’s Week) competition.
Since Cannes, Thomas has written a number of screenplays for hire and has acted as a visual and producer’s consultant on projects from Hollywood to Bollywood. He has just finished producing and directing "Serious"
