Maria Warith-Wade is a Black filmmaker from Richmond, Virginia. Her career in television began when she was nine, operating cameras for televised services at her church. She’s the youngest out of thirteen, raised in a multi-faith house -- Islam and Christianity, and graduated from college at nineteen. She’s the daughter of a sharecropper, but came of age post-9/11 and was labeled an “at-risk” youth. Storytelling became her tool to masquerade personal details about her life. It led Maria to become extremely observant of how people perceived her based on the details she omits. While Maria’s background is varied, her passion is to develop content that examines narratives from marginalized and unconventional spaces. Before attending USC’s Peter Stark MFA Producing Program, she was a content producer for Viacom launching campaigns across their music and entertainment brands for tentpoles and live events. She has a passion for social impact stories and narratives around the Black experience and diaspora.
