Experiencing Interruptions?

Sensed: A JMS Dance Project

This project utilizes a dance concert to showcase how our five senses affect the way we move by using an artistic form of movement, dance. Specifically, we will explore the ideas of how we see, hear, taste, smell, and touch creates a physical reaction. While upon first glance, it is easier to understand how some of these senses influence our movements over some. However, all five encourage the way we move by affecting the other senses and other processes within our bodies.

Director Statement

When looking into our senses, we rarely take the time to understand how they affect our movements. Our survival skills rely on these senses. When we hear certain sounds, feel certain surfaces, see certain events, taste or smell something bad. Each of these experiences allow our brain to comprehend what is going on around us. What happens when these do not properly function? We rely more and more on the others to help protect us from danger. Taking these ideas and putting them into dance has been a challenge. Some senses are easier than others. We rely on certain senses more. The goal is educate others that each sense is equally important. Survival is important.
