Director Biography - Shameela Amiry

I am Shameela, daughter of Tella Mohammad, born in 1994 in Kabul province. I started my primary and secondary education in 2001 and completed it in 2016. During my studies, I had a strong interest in learning computer skills and English and participated in various courses. A few years ago, I also completed a three-month course in video photography at Roya Film, supported by USAID.

My experiences in the film industry are quite diverse. I worked as an assistant script supervisor and costume designer in two seasons of a TV series, which was a very educational experience for me. Additionally, I collaborated with an Australian woman for three years on small documentary films as a script supervisor. So far, I have directed three short films, each presenting its own challenges and achievements.

As a filmmaker, I have always strived to reflect my unique and creative perspective on social and cultural issues in my works. I believe that by telling local stories and showcasing the realities of my people's lives, I can play an important role in cultural development and the advancement of filmmaking art. I hope to continue on this path, create more works, and contribute to the growth and development of the film industry in Afghanistan.

I was on the pressure of thinking why some families force their daughters to marry in the young ages without satisfaction, sometime they are selling them to someone very old or very young.
I started my film works in a TV Series as assistant of costume designer, then I understood that I can effect more with making films of my mind. I joined a filming class and improved my knowledge about film and cinema.
