Welcome to the Self Propelled Short Film Festival
A festival created by filmmakers for filmmakers

Self-Propelled is a live screening and an award event that runs for several months and takes place in cities all over the United States (Philadelphia, New Orleans, Los Angeles, New York, Boston). The event started in 2016 by a group of filmmakers from Philadelphia called Red Flight Pictures LLC.

Red Flight Pictures is producing this festival to help independent filmmakers showcase their work to a live audience and give them the chance to network and connect with other filmmakers worldwide. Our goal is to create a community that helps let the art of filmmaking thrive.

We understand the challenges of getting a film made and seen by a live audience. With that being said, our film festival puts the filmmaker first. Of course, we watch each film and even, at your request, offer feedback to every film that submits once submissions are closed.

Filmmakers have the chance to connect and meet other filmmakers across the nation, have their film screened in several theaters. Free marketing of there film (all entry fees go toward marketing of the films, not the film festival)

How does this all work?
Once all films are selected, we put together a nationwide screening in many major cities at theaters like AMC, Landmark, Regal and more. We then use all entry fees to market the films (not the festival). This includes social media ads, posters and more. This way all the films are being marketed.

How are the films judged?
Each film is rated on 1-10 scale for the following areas. The highest scoring films will be selected. Yup, it's that simple.

Originality / Creativity
Production Value
Sound / Music

How many screening take place?
We host about 10-15 screeners between the months of April and September

What happens if I'm accepted?
We'll send you an email with an official acceptance laurel. In addition, you'll get access to all screenings for free including a plus one pass.

How do the screenings work?
So each film that is selected will be scheduled out screenings in all major cities. Tickets for these screenings go on sale about a month in advance. Screenings will need to sell a certain number of tickets for the screening to happen. NO, YOU DON'T NEED TO SELL ANY TICKETS. We use all the entry fees to promote ticket sales to help drive an audience to your film. This is what allows us to have screenings in big theaters and guarantees you an audience. However, if tickets don't sell, the screening is canceled and no previous tickets are charged. We'll also do our best to reschedule the screening. Either way, all films are promoted online and awards are still given out regardless.
