As a creative, Sarah Jackson’s passion lies within the arts of storytelling. The Australian female Writer and Director of Seeing Red has collected numerous of credits for short films, documentaries, music videos and other film projects. Sarah enjoys creating stories that push boundaries outside the social norm, evoke raw emotion and that explore the realms of arthouse filmmaking. Seeing Red has been her most ambitious project yet to date, as she delves into taboo themes and showcases woman empowerment through expressing sexuality. Sarah’s future endeavours consist of crafting her skills and as well as further delving into experimental filmmaking.
An emotionally tormented story, Seeing Red captures moments of violence, sex, desires, love and lust through experimental filmmaking. A mixed genre of arthouse and horror, we see the mind of a vulnerable, unstable woman who explores her sexuality on a morbid sensual journey. The passion for telling this story relies on how I see myself as a woman. As this story is based on very unfortunate events in my life, the journey of how I see and express myself sexually has come a long way.
The event that took place in my life I was naive and young, I was blinded by how mistreated I was in an abusive relationship. My first sexual encounter was not consensual. I remember the confusion I felt afterwards. Thinking that someone that loved you would abuse you this way.
Seeing Red captures the rawness of this twisted, emotional journey. This film depicts a strong female protagonist who explores her sexuality on a large and morbid scale. This feminist journey has made me a stronger and confident woman and I hope that sharing this personal experience of mine will encourage other women of abuse to explore their sensual self without feeling shamed.
