Sebastián Jiménez is a young filmmaker born in 1996 who lives and works in Asunción, Paraguay. In 2018, he received a degree in Cinematography from Columbia University of Paraguay, obtaining a degree in Cinematography with an emphasis on Cinematographic Performance. Sebastián is currently working as a screenwriter and director in several audiovisual projects for various national and international entities. In addition, he has made several fiction works, which have been presented and awarded at several national and international short film festivals in Paraguay and Sudamerica.
His works of fiction tend to talk about problems inherent to the human being, especially about intimate aspects that people do not usually mention aloud, even if they feel the pain inside.
From his interest in the relations between literature and cinema, his works and his narrative affections revolve around Magic Realism and Surrealism, and he tends to use his fictions as a metaphor for what happens at the heart of intimate existence of people as well as what will happen to humanity in the near future.
His first fiction work was the short film Factor Clave, winner of the Arasá National Short Film Festival 2017 in Paraguay, and awarded an honorable mention by the acting director at the X International Cultural Society of Audiovisual Festival 2017.
His short film script Exterminio was selected as a finalist in the First International Contest of Cinematographic Script Centennial Roa Bastos, an event organized by the entity Cultural Center of the Republic of El Cabildo in commemoration of the centenary of the celebrated Paraguayan writer. The same project was selected for its development and implementation with the support of the CCR Cabildo and the Augusto Roa Bastos Foundation.
In 2018, Sebastian directed his second fiction short film, The Mirror, which been released internationally in Argentina at the Paraná International Films Festival (PIFF) winning the Best Short´s Cinematography award (2019).
In addition, Sebastian directed institutional documentaries for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in 2017 as part of the project "Strategic Contributions to the Reform of Vocational Training in Paraguay", work that was published internationally by that entity. Recently, the completion of a new documentary project with the GIZ has been completed, which will be published in 2019.
Sebastián has also been trained as an actor, participating as an interpreter in five plays during his academic training between 2015 and 2017. He has also worked in audiovisual, performing before cameras in commercials and fiction short films from 2015 to date .
