Experiencing Interruptions?

Seattle's QTPOC Music Scene

Queer and Trans people of color always have their stories/voices pushed to the back, never to be heard, especially in mainstream music. This documentary features some of Seattle’s QTPOC music artists trying to be heard in a city that is still not fighting for them.

Director Biography - Momma Nikki

Momma Nikki, a QTPOC advocate and artist, wants to highlight the phenomenal queer music in her city that she personally loves. Although she is from the area, her music career was developed in the Southern roots of Nashville, TN. It was while attending school at the historic HBCU Fisk University that she started to see herself as the artist she would eventually grow into. She toured with a group and was signed to a sub-label of Warner Brothers, but it just wasn’t what any of them wanted. Nikki eventually left Nashville and came back to the PNW where she started to write with the band she is currently with, Holy Pistola. She feels like she has had her most significant growth being back here at home. Her background in photography has led her to shoot videos all the while running the Communications team in the newly developed 3rd party, The Seattle Peoples Party. She has made countless videos for the campaign and continued to put forth that same passion into this documentary. Though creativeness may feel limited on a budget, Nikki found a unique way to tell not only her story, but was able to share voices of her community that are often overlooked and silenced.
