We are making a million dollar movie this year... will it be yours?

We are looking for an original feature length screenplay to put into production later this year as an independent film with a total production budget of one million US dollars.

We are interested in screenplays of the following genres:

- Thrillers
- Action/adventure
- Comedy
- Horror
- Sci-fi

(No flat dramas or historical, please - they're not what we are looking for.)

Essentially, what we want is a great story which will translate into great cinema. If your screenplay can deliver this, we would like to read it. As well as choosing one screenplay for production, two runners up will each receive $250.00 and be offered an option agreement for their screenplays.

'Search For A Screenplay' represents a small number of first-time producers with interests in most genres. We're inspired by the motto 'Just do it' and are really excited to turn a great screenplay into a great film.

Awards & Prizes

Winning entry: The winning screenwriter will have their movie produced, be credited as the writer and will be paid commensurate to a $1,000,000.00 production budget.

Two runners-up: $250.00 prize money and the offer of an option agreement.

Entries are being accepted up until Sunday 31 July 2016.

**EXTENDED FINAL DEADLINE - SUNDAY 7 AUGUST 2016**

The winning screenwriter and the two runners-up will be announced before the end of September 2016 via the Search For A Screenplay website and across selected media channels. Production of the winning screenplay will commence soon after.

Rules & Terms

- Submissions are being accepted exclusively via FilmFreeway.
- Submissions preferred in standard screenplay format.
- Formats accepted: .PDF (preferred), Final Draft, MovieMagic, and .DOC
- The entry fee per screenplay is $45 (or $80 with comprehensive feedback notes from two of the producers).
- The deadline for submissions is 7 August 2016.
- Multiple projects may be submitted.
- Feature length screenplays only.
- Most genres considered, but please see description for exclusions.
- All entry fees are non-refundable.
- All submitted material must be original, and all rights must be wholly owned by the writer(s).
- Revisions or re-drafts will not be accepted - please ensure that what you submit is your final and complete version.
- Material submitted must be in English but the contest is open to all writers worldwide.
- Screenplays submitted must not be encumbered by any obligation to a third party prior to entering the competition and any work that becomes optioned or purchased between the time of submission and the end of the judging period will no longer be eligible.
- Filming will take place in the United States and/or Canada.
- The winning writer will be paid commensurate to the $1,000,000 production budget and credited as the writer. There will be no other financial reward - if you win, we will purchase your screenplay and its rights from you. Terms will be outlined in full in a contract which must be signed prior to the winning entry being announced.
- The exact payment will be based on a percentage of the total budget. This percentage will depend on whether or not a co-writer is required to assist with revising the winning screenplay, but it will be between 2 - 4% of the total budget.

The producers' decisions regarding the winning entry and the two runners-up are final. No correspondence will be entered into with the exception of the provision of comprehensive feedback notes for entrants who opt for them when they submit their screenplays.
