Screen.dance is a festival programme of events and awards in Scotland, UK, dedicated to celebrating the art and creativity of imaginative dance on screen. Screen.dance incorporates public screenings, artists’ presentations, workshops, masterclasses, exhibitions, and live events. Established in 2016 Screen.dance has been delivered in partnership with Citymoves Dance Agency SCIO, Aberdeen since 2020.
Building on the success of the June 2020 and March 2021 online festival editions curated by Simon Fildes and Iliyana Nedkova, we are creating a special hybrid event to be held onsite in Aberdeen and worldwide online as part of 17th annual DanceLive Festival 14–17 October 2021 and on demand until 31 October 2021 in close collaboration with Citymoves Dance Agency SCIO, Aberdeen.
As part of DanceLive 2021, Screen.dance will present three specially curated programmes.
Firstly, a retrospective commemorating one of the Scottish pioneers of screen dance, also one of the founders of Screen.dance Festival Simon Fildes (1962-2021).
Secondly, a collective moving image homage to the contemporary dance diva Margaret Morris (1891–1980) featuring works by Scottish and international contemporary visual artists and filmmakers.
Finally, a selection of new and recent Scottish screen dance works, drawn from an open, juried call through Screen.dance FilmFreeway. Following its premiere at DanceLive 2021, this open call programme will tour as part of the 20th annual Festival Quartiers Danses, Montreal in September 2022 in line with our ongoing partnership with this leading Quebec festival.
All three programmes will be presented in three hybrid modes at DanceLive 2021, Citymoves Dance Agency SCIO, Aberdeen.
Firstly, as one-off, public livestream screenings for live audiences both onsite in Aberdeen and worldwide online, to be followed by a moderated post-screening Q&A with some of the featured artists.
Secondly, as an onsite screen-based installation exhibition in Aberdeen, free and open to all and thirdly, as livestream on demand worldwide online 18–31 October 2021.
For the curated, open call programme, a fee of £100 will be awarded per each film by Scottish artists selected for presentation as part of the 17th annual DanceLive Festival 14–31 October 2021 in close collaboration with Citymoves Dance Agency SCIO, Aberdeen.
This fee also covers the tour of this programme as part of the 20th annual Festival Quartiers Danses, Montreal in September 2022 in line with Screen.dance ongoing partnership with this leading Quebec festival.
Those Scottish artists selected to participate in the moderated post-screening Q&A as part of DanceLive 14–17 October 2021 will receive an additional £50 speaker's fee.
