Blake June Fennell is an Aboriginal Australian film director, writer, and animator. Growing up in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Blake discovered their passion for animation at a young age which quickly developed into also gaining an affection for filmmaking. Being Transgender herself, projects in which she undertakes tend to contain a key focus on symbolising and representing the transgender and queer experience.
'Scintillation' has been a film I've wanted to create since I ever found out I was trans. It's a collection of all the fears, experiences, and doubts I've had as a trans woman. When I first pictured this film in my head years ago, it was a lot more sinister, with a darker ending that was truly depressing. However, after much reflection regarding queer cinema, I wanted to create a film that left a lot more hope and joy than a lingering sadness.
