Director Statement

‘Scelus’ is set in a religious high school and is about a teenage girl, Laura, who is in a fight with one of her friends over a male student. Deciding to go to her friend's party, Laura goes into the girl's toilets to get ready. However, she soon encounters a sinister presence and finds herself with no way of escape. The short film has themes of mystery, fear and suspense, making it tense and keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

I created 'Scelus' for my creative media coursework in my final year of Sixth Form. I was proud of my short film so decided to enter it into this film festival. Filming was very fun and exciting, especially with the cast and crew. The cast and crew were very enjoyable to work with and were very professional on set, despite being students themselves. We worked hard filming my short horror film as it was our first experience using filming and using the equipment. Using only a simple DSLR camera I created a script that I wrote over a year ago, unlocking my creativity in directing, scriptwriting and editing. During filming, I had my first experience using equipment such as tripods, bounce disks and clapperboards, but overcoming nerves I succeeded in bringing to life my creation. It is rewarding to have so much support from the cast and crew, as well as family and friends. Now I get to share my project with other students and the film community.
