I was born and grew up in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, in a family of mathematicians, but decided to study psychology and then filmmaking. I’ve been always interested in human nature. I believe that film has ability as well as all tools and instruments to show human in it's secrecy, to open masks that we all wear, to show not only people's actions but motivation for the acts. I hope that the understanding of actions of people around us will make all of us a little kinder.

Scarlet film was conceived as a suspense film. I really wanted to explore the genre of thriller but when I started to write the film and think about main characters I realized that the film becomes a very personal psychological drama. It became more about internal life of the heroine, about her relationships with her past. I was always interested in human nature and human behavior, I think it seeped out. We see an arrogant and strong woman who at the end of the film turns into a small vulnerable girl, a little daughter of her mother. We see a mother who is kind and loving and a great support for the daughter but we realize that she probably doesn’t have a life due to her daughters condition. In general I wanted to say that we all have battles of our own and often not obvious for other people. Understanding it would help all of us to be kinder and bring a little happy moments to each other.
