Saving the Millets
This film has been made by Chakseng Sangma, a Green Hub Fellow from the batch of 2017-18, as part of his internship with NESFAS. The film is based on a village in West Garo Hills of Meghalaya where the villagers used to sow millets. However the younger generation prefer rice over millets and hence the practice of growing millets has also decreased. But the elders in the community continue to grow millets, so that there will at least be seeds for the younger generations and those to come.

Chakseng T Sangma is a resident of West Garo Hills. Chakseng was working with the North East Slow Food & Agrobiodiversity Society (NSFAS) until he joined the Green Hub fellowship in 2017. During his internship period, he worked with NSFAS and made the film Saving the Millets.
Millets are a part of our tradition. But with the merge of cultures and people's preferences are also changing. Now our community hardly grows millets. Hence, through this film I was trying to revive the culture of millet plantation. It is also very nutritious and good for one's health.
