Making this video, we wanted to show how our shortcomings can put us in situations where helping others is the only way to help ourselves. We wanted to highlight how the once-religious alcoholic John - haunted by his subconscious Angel to do more good - overcomes his personal struggles through healing the racial tension between the black male Mike (whom John knew as a past-acquaintance during his religious days) and the racist Father of his girlfriend, Jane.
Unfortunately, even as we filmed, we were interrupted by an incident of prejudice when our actor John graciously let us use his motel apartment. Even though we spoke softly to not disturb the neighbors, filming in areas which were secluded to John's room, his landlord halted filming once he saw us.
Although we tried to negotiate with him to let us finish filming, he refused to listen - thus making our production more chaotic. The actual caring people, who willingly lent us their time to help make this story, shows that simple kindness goes a long way while being self-centered goes nowhere.
We hope to make people acknowledge the daily struggles we still face in today’s society concerning religious faith and discrimination against all races of Humanity, and that if we are to overcome them we must face our personal demons - and angels.
