Aleshya Easen is a young and upcoming film director with a passion for telling raw and real stories exploring the darker truths of the human condition. Easen's films, Love Without Kisses (2021), Virtue (2022), and Sausage & Chips (2022) all delve into complex and thought-provoking themes, such as the exploration of illegal conversion therapy, sexual assault, and grief. Her goal is to create a more realistic portrayal of these subjects and to avoid depicting them in a stereotypical or formulaic manner. Easen's films aim to raise awareness, challenge societal norms and taboos, and provide a platform for underrepresented perspectives.
As a young and upcoming film director, I am passionate about telling raw and real stories that explore the complexities of the human condition. Through my films Love Without Kisses, Virtue, and Sausage & Chips, I aim to challenge societal norms and taboos, and provide a platform for underrepresented perspectives.
In Sausage & Chips, I sought to depict a more realistic portrayal of grief and the unpredictability of when it is felt. Moving away from the conventional "5 Stages of Grief Model", the film showcases how the avoidance of grief can lead to interpersonal sabotage. The story of Herman and Elaine highlights the importance of grieving together, as a couple, in order to heal and move forward.
It is my hope that through my films, I can raise awareness and challenge the way we think about and perceive difficult and taboo subjects. My goal is to create a more realistic and nuanced representation of these subjects, and to provide a voice for those who have been marginalized.
