Director Biography - Tapan Narendra Gaokar

Tapan Gaokar, a self-taught filmmaker based out of Mumbai,comes with a strong background in Advertising and Screenplay Writing and Farming.
He is a staunch believer of cinema being a medium that helps highlight the deep-penetrating issues of society, educate and empower people through stories. Tapan translates this belief into his work: be it ads or self-funded projects. He also works towards showing equality for all genders through his work.
After pursuing his Bachelor's in Advertising and Mass Media from University of Mumbai, he started shooting self-funded short narratives which got accolades at different film festivals.Much of his work has been attempted to reflect on issues of exile, identity, culture and politics. Following this, he shot well-produced content for ads, music videos, corporate films, playing with different formats and styles. Sat-Asat is his first feature film venture.

I am honoured to have the opportunity to showcase our film at this prestigious event. This film is very special to me. As the director of Sat-Asat, I am thrilled to share with you
our film, which holds a special place in my heart. When I first came across this story, I knew that it was the one I wanted to make my first film as a director. I felt that this story resonated with me, and I hoped that it would resonate with others as well.
What makes Sat Asat truly special is that it is a product of a unique collaboration
between non-traditional film students and professionals. This film did not come from the traditional filmmaking process, but instead emerged from a shared passion among a group of individuals from different rural and urban setups of India.This collaborative approach brought fresh perspectives and ideas to the filmmaking process, and the final product is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Our cast and crew, made up of both students and professionals, came together to create something truly unique and special. It was a joy to collaborate with a diverse group of individuals, to bring this story to life on the big screen. And I am thrilled to share it with you all.
