The Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative is very pleased to present the Second Annual Saskatchewan Independent Film Awards. The one day event celebrates Saskatchewan’s best independent filmmakers and showcases to the entire province our own filmmaking talents and unique Saskatchewan culture. After a very sucessful debut in 2014, the Filmpool is excited to present an expanded version of SIFA in 2015.

The awards are open to all residents of Saskatchewan and Filmpool members. Films must have been completed within the past two years. All types and genres are accepted.. Films must not exceed 20 minutes.

SIFA has cash awards in all four categories, as well trophies presented to all winners at the event itself.

Eligibility
The Filmpool asks that only current Full/Basic Members of the Filmpool, OR non-members who signup as a Submitter* submit works. The cost to signup as a Submitter is $45; as a Submitter you have access to submit your film to the Filmpool SIFA 2015, along with a year long subscription to the Filmpool Dailies and Splice Magazine (for an extra $20 Submitters may upgrade to a Basic Membership).
Subscribers and Affiliate Member Organizations are ineligible for the Premiere Screening.
The Saskatchewan Independent Film Awards (SIFA) are open to all Saskatchewan residents living in the province for one year or longer. If you are a Filmpool Member living outside of the province, you must have been a member for at least one year.
The term “Independent” is defined as a film in which the filmmaker retains 100% creative control over.
Films submitted should not exceed 20 minutes.
Films must have been completed in the past two years and not have been submitted to the previous SIFA Screenings.
Submissions of all types will be considered (ie. documentary, narrative, experimental, animation, etc.).
Passworded streaming video links preferred for submissions (such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc)
Award Categories
Best Film – Jury’s Choice
The winner of this award will receive a cash prize, along with their name on the main SIFA trophy, and their own individual-sized trophy.
Best Student Film
To qualify for the student category the filmmaker must be enrolled in secondary or post-secondary schooling, or have created their film within the last two years while being enrolled in secondary or post-secondary schooling. Works produced with outside funding, such as Saskatchewan Arts Board grants, will not be considered for the student category. The winner of this award will receive a cash prize, an individual-sized trophy, and a free Basic Filmpool Membership for one year, redeemable at anytime.
Best Acting
This award will be given to an outstanding performance by a male or female actor. The winner of this award will receive an individual-sized trophy along with a cash prize.
Audience Choice (Sponsored by mispon)
Paper ballets will be included in the programs on the night of the Filmpool Premiere Screening, during the Q&A period audience members will be asked to fill out their favourite film from the night. The winner of this award will receive an individual-sized trophy along with a cash prize.
Adjudication
This is a competitive process juried by a panel of independent filmmakers under the Filmpool policy. Films are assessed under the context of the Filmpool’s mandate.
Films selected for the SIFA Screening will be assessed under the context of the Filmpool’s mandate.
The Filmpool retains the right to deem certain content inappropriate for a general audience.
The final decision regarding interpretation of the eligibility of any production for consideration for the SIFAs will be the responsibility of the Filmpool.
Preference will be given to films created within the last year.
Submission Procedure
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: October 30, 2015
VENUE: Artesian on 13th (2627 13th Ave, Regina, Sk.)
SCREENING DATE: Thursday November 26, 2015
Following a submission process with a Jury, applicants will be notified by November 18th if their film has been selected to be included in the SIFA Screening 2015. IMAA standards for artist’s fees will be honoured for all selected filmmakers. All selected SIFA Screening 2015 filmmakers will be encouraged to attend the Screening and Q & A session to follow the SIFA Screening, or to send a representative. The SIFA nominees will receive the opportunity to be featured in Splice Magazine.
*Signing up as submitter: Cost is $45 and gives you access to submit your film to the Filmpool SIFA Screening 2015. It also gives you the perks of a Subscriber (a subscription to Splice magazine and the Filmpool’s weekly e-newsletter, The Dailies). For an extra $20 Submitters may upgrade to a Basic Membership.
