Sasha Byk Giroux is a French-Canadian writer and director, currently based in Sydney, Australia. A graduate of the Sydney Film School with a Diploma of Screen and Media (2022), she had there the opportunity to write and direct her own short film, "Mr Ambrose’s Boutique of Second Chances" (Semi Finalist at the Student World Impact Film Festival, and part of the official selections of the Newcastle International Film Festival, and Lift-Off Global Sessions Sydney and Melbourne), as well as partake in a number of other student productions in various capacities.
She completed her Bachelor of Screen Production at Excelsia College in 2023, where she wrote, directed and produced the short film "What a Beautiful Night" (chosen as part of the Art of the Score Initiative at the Juilliard School of Music), the documentary "La Tornade", and the period short film "Lucinda and Marion".
In early 2023, she spent three months in the United States studying in a filmmaking intensive at the Los Angeles Performing Arts Conservatory.
She's currently in post-production for the short film "Bedridden", a gothic horror about female hysteria and the unfair treatment of women in 1890s Australia.
With an interest in literature, theatre, and journalism, she worked at the news agency « Le Courier Australien » in Sydney as head of the video department in 2020, as well as volunteering at organisations like the Sydney Film Festival and the New Theatre in Sydney. In 2024, she was assistant stage manager on a production of Grain in the Blood, at KXT on Broadway.
Growing up between four different countries, Sasha developed a passion for travel, language and culture very early on, and hopes to have a career that takes her all over the world and that allows her to constantly expand her knowledge and improve her skills. She hopes to work across a vast diversity of genres in film and theatre, and would love to have a career that allows her to explore storytelling to its fullest.
