Director Biography

As she was enamored with stories of her lineage and African-American history from her elders, Jocelyn’s love of storytelling was nourished from an early age. This nourishment allowed her to gain an appreciation for overlooked and under represented diverse stories and their subjects. Through this, Jocelyn believes all stories hold important knowledge and wisdom necessary for the next generation.

Jocelyn’s interest in filmmaking was sparked her second year of undergrad as she was intrigued by seeing students on campus filming for class projects. She took this bit of curiosity and decided to take the Video Production I course as an elective. This curiosity altered the trajectory of her education and life goals. Having always known she was going to Graduate School Jocelyn decided to focus her Master’s Thesis on something that was extremely personal to her and her community. With this, Jocelyn decided to search for a correlation between media representation and societal perception as she focused her research on the media representation of the HBCU.

As a Carolina girl Jocelyn, who was South Carolina born and North Carolina Raised is a true southern through and through.
