Director Biography - Nicole Marie Toporowski, Craigen Z Oster

Nicole studied film at Wayne State University, graduating in the Winter of 2019. Since then she has created 6 short films with her partner Craigen Oster, including the award winning short FOOD TIME, in which Nicole served as both the producer and lead actress.

Director Statement

I wanted to make a film that realistically portrayed first/blind date encounters. Films traditionally display these meetings as moments where sparks fly, love blossoms, or where some sort of meet-cute occurs that endears the two people to one another. Here we wanted to subvert that, showing how these situations are often awkward, highlighting the disconnect that can occur when two people meet who just aren't on the same page. We set out to do that my having two of our friends, who did not know each other, independently create their own characters so that the day of the shoot, it would be their first time meeting both as regular humans and as their characters.
