Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema is a niche film festival specializing in films that integrate the aesthetics of dance and cinema. Based in Boulder, CO, we've been screening films in our hometown, across the United States, and around the world since 2004. Our mission is to promulgate this emerging art form by developing an audience and hence supporting our contributing artists.

The integration dance and cinematography is the heart of our work. When choosing works for exhibition and installation, we consider thoughtful forms and themes, investigative / innovative / experimental approaches, production values, audience appeal, choreographic creativity, virtuosic performance, and program fit. None of these criteria is a must; none is more important than the others; excellence in any one or two areas may be sufficient for acceptance. Shorts are preferred; documentaries and animations will be considered. Note that we are not interested in simple recordings of dance on a proscenium stage — cinematic elements must be an integral part of the entry. We encourage submissions from all artists regardless of credentials and affiliations.

Sans Souci will sponsor screenings at the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Irey Theatre September 22-24, and also exhibit accepted works at the Boedecker Theater at Dairy Arts Center and other venues later in the fall.

A special note to students:
Sans Souci loves you, dance and film students! Since its inception, Sans Souci has proudly shown the work of student artists as they make their first forays into the world of dance cinema and continue to develop their portfolios. In 2016, we began an Emerging Artists program to present the work of students and first-time filmmakers-- and we were overwhelmed with the number of responses! This year we'd like to expand that to offer a full evening-length screening, exclusively comprised of student work, tentatively scheduled at Texas State University, in San Marcos in December 2017. Stay tuned for more details, and remember to check the "Student Film" box when you upload and submit. We look forward to hearing from you!
