Director Biography - Jyotsna K Raj

Jyotsna K Raj is a debutant director, editor, sound designer and producer based in Bangalore. In 2018 an unsuccessful stint at forming a theater troupe, presented her a new dream to chase - filmmaking. Jyotsna strongly believes that some stories never get told. It’s that unquenchable thirst to tell such a story by whatever means and through whichever medium possible, that drives her and this project. Her debut feature film was produced over a period of 24-months alongside her full-time job.

Director Statement

Nature prioritizes two fundamental human motivations - eating and mating. That nature conspires with our physical biochemistry to facilitate and propagate these motivations is quite apparent, even without glancing at the evolutionary evidence. But when millions of years of natural selection and the sheer process of survival meets the hollow civilizational compulsions and societal norms, turmoil in an individual's mind is inevitable.
For its survival and continuing legitimacy, the society has superseded nature's reasoning with its own - “Get a job, get married, have a child”. From two basic necessities to multiple fantasies to chase and realize, without which one is an outcast, even within his own tribe, community, or family groups.
The story progresses through the plane of ambiguity, the psychological narrative is intertwined with the mysterious and occult elements that are tied with the region's culture and traditions. These elements - obscure and vague can neither be untied from each other nor be distinguished.
But for a viewer or the members of the audience or any outsider, looking in, these elements may serve only as a means to be engaged or perhaps even be entertained. But even if those shades are brushed aside, the story with its universal themes will still hold ground as a human drama of aspirations, tribulations and redemptions.
