Director Biography - Vitalii Kikot

Ukrainian film director, whose films are distinguished by depicting life without embellishment.

His heroes are like our acquaintances, neighbors or even ourselves: when we are "on the edge" in the search for ourselves, when it seems that the whole world is against you and does not accept you.

Extensive experience working in TV news department left its mark on the director's work: Vitalii Kikot shared in his interview that he was grateful to this period of his life for being full of images and stories, which he was able to recreate in his films.

So, the “Sad Portraits” was inspired by a real story that happened a few years ago in Kyiv, and screenwriter Ihor Zaitsev took it as a basis, who supplemented it with details and imaginatively depicted events that were left out of the short summary in the news.
