Renato de Castro is a brazilian independent filmmaker, who has been producing his own short films since 2020. Born in Sydney, Australia and raised watching DVDs during his childhood in Brazil, and being in a lot of different experiences in the city of São Paulo, Renato turned out to be quite the authentic screenwriter and director kind, who creates pungent narratives. Completed his college time in 2025, at the FAAP’s film school, where he produced four short films of his own and worked in six productions as an assistant. In another professional experience interned in production at Kuarup Produções LTDA. on the series “Notícias Populares” (2022), directed by Marcelo Caetano. Has already directed a video clip and a lot of homemade short fictions and documentaries on behalf of his passion on making films anytime with anything. Nowadays Renato is into an independent production creating process of his name, by developing future projects and distributing the ready ones. After a lot of different authoral productions Renato de Castro really started his career as an independent filmmaker with the short film “Sacrament” (2024) that won Best Experimental Short and Best Make-Up and Hair in the Brazil New Visions Film Fest. Got selected in other six brazilian film festivals and some international ones like Buenos Aires International Film Festival, that went finalist into the competition. It was selected for the 25th edition of the Beverly Hills Film Festival and exhibited at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres, Los Angeles. In the next year Renato concluded other two short films: “The Barship” (2025) and “Baixada: In Cubtão’s Waters” made with the local production of Cubatão called “Nois das Palafitas”.
